August 6, 2024 – The National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology (Inmetro), one of the most important institutions in Brazil, celebrated its 50 years of history in a special event at its headquarters in Rio de Janeiro. The celebration was attended by vice-president Geraldo Alckmin, who praised Inmetro’s trajectory and importance for the country.
During the event, the final version of Inmetro’s Strategic Planning for 2024-2027 was also approved, which aims to further strengthen the entity’s relevance in society, as highlighted by the president of Inmetro, Márcio André Brito. He highlighted that strategic planning will be essential for the entity to continue providing quality infrastructure solutions.
Transformation in Delegated Bodies: Brito also commented on the positive transformation that is taking place in Inmetro’s delegated bodies, mentioning that the situation has already improved significantly. “We did not have the minimum conditions to carry out our activity in Brazil through our delegated bodies, but this reality has now changed. We renegotiated contracts with the commitment of the Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services to assist us in the shortest possible time. We are getting the network up and running. The minister’s presence reinforces and revives our hope for better days,” he stated.
Presence of Leadership: The event was attended by Inmetro’s senior management, directors and presidents of various delegated bodies. During his speech, vice-president Alckmin highlighted the importance of Inmetro: “Half a century of experience, work, achievements and challenges. And the best way we should celebrate is by strengthening institutions. Márcio mentioned the issue of delegated bodies, and at the Ministry we were able to allocate R$27.5 million to Inmetro without any supplementation.”
Importance of Inmetro for Brazil: Alckmin also emphasized that Inmetro’s work is crucial in several aspects: “First, in the regulatory aspect, remaining at the forefront of technology that advances rapidly. Second, ensuring the security that society needs, whether in a hospital respirator or in toys. And, third, promoting competitive loyalty and establishing a fair consumer relationship between buyers and sellers.”
Contribution from SIAMFESP: Recognizing the importance of Inmetro for industries, society and the Brazilian economy, SIAMFESP actively collaborates with the entity, either directly or through the FIESP and CNI forums, proposing improvements to the regulatory model and representing demands of the sectors.
